She can definitely run faster as the season goes, but that doesn't compare to her 5k PR at all which I think is way more impressive.
Emma Coburn isn't going to sleep as easy tonight.
She ran 9:55, close to 50 seconds slower than Emma, different league.
The women running over 9:35 in the steeple are not going anywhere, cannot compete with the top US runners.
nice debut. I think this is about 12 seconds off the Olympic or American qualifier. It's not at all unheard of to drop a lot of time after your first steeple. It would not be surprising to see 9:30s this year in a better field.
At the very least, glad to see her back and healthy! Just by glancing at results it seems like she must've just been racing for the win.

Results are a little deceiving. She took the last two laps on her own, and people were running her down a little in the home straightaway (obviously not successfully). Still, I absolutely agree with you that it's great to see her back, healthy, and victorious!
hahahahaemma coburn is so strong as a runner. she also has run 48 seconds faster and won a bronze medal at the OLYMPICSshe's trying to beat (and beating) the best steeple chase athletes in the world, not a skinny mini who did well on her first try who is injury proneostrander is an amazing runner, but coburn (and the other great american steeplers) aren't worried about her right nowAND, you're assuming ostrander even wants to race the 3k steeple!

Like someone else mentioned, her 5k qualified her for the olympic trials. At this point that is clearly her better event. On the other hand the steeple takes more practice and "skill" so maybe she can improve on her technique. Obviously a great first run and great to see her out there! Clearly she is an amazing kid!
is there a video link?
She's run 15:20, so this is not very impressive. The only reason I can think of is she's afraid high mileage will break her down again.
I knew MJ wanted to play baseball but now he's steepling? Damn!
Allie may go for the unprecedented steeple,5k, and 10K trifecta at NCAA's this June. Expect Great Things... you heard it here first... Thanks
Yikes! Did Brianna Nerud fall?

The steeple is a waste of time for her.
I'm pretty sure she can run 9:3x this season, but this is probably not the best event for her given her short stature.

She was smooth and in control the entire race. Went out in the lead pack then took control the last couple of laps. Her hurdle form was excellent. She has very good hip flexibility and exhibits good elastic strength. She had excellent push-off from the water barrier. Slightly stumbled a couple of times when landing in the water pit. Landed in the far (shallow) end almost every time. Overall, she looked as smooth and relaxed as the women in the race who have run the event much longer. She was definitely fatigued at the end but not as bad as one would expect for a season opener and steeple debut. Very poised. Very impressive.
People keep harping about her small stature but aren't considering she is a good overall athlete who in secondary school excelled at basketball, soccer and apparently has practiced martial arts. A well rounded phys ed program in the early years is ideal for any sport.
Her potential in the steeple is a mystery. On one hand, immediately having such good technique rules out most if not all upside gain from form improvement though there is always room for a tiny bit of improvement. On the other hand, with such a good debut it is tempting to try developing in the event. I think her coach plans to have her score points in the steeple at NCAA.
Great talent, the real deal.

She did this as a lark, her older sister steeples, its not a focus for her.
This was a fun strength building exercise.
