I have a pair as well. My wife threw them away after about ten years.

We are still married though.

There was a similar pair on display at the Nike store in Eugene.

You can find an extraordinary amount of vital and interesting information about running, training, racing, track history and various fascinating cultural and political issues on here. You do sometimes have to wade through nonsense to find what you're looking for.The reference to SHOUTING refers to the fact that for some reason you posted YOUR INITIAL QUESTION ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS. This tends to make it look like you're shouting rather than talking. So maybe avoid that practice in the future.Not sure how much the shoes are worth. You could try more Googling or see if you can find a similar pair on eBay. Certainly it's a niche market, so if you find the right buyer you could get some cash for them but others might just consider them a quaint retro sneaker.Can you prove provenance? For instance, do you have a picture of yourself wearing them in the race? That would help attract a serious buyer should you ever deserve to sell.Stick around. Lots of us here are interested in hearing more about the golden age of American distance running. Tell us some race stories, maybe.

For instance, what can you tell us about the 15k race you won in Mansfield, OH, on June 3, 1972? My in-laws live in the 'Field and I visit regularly. Was it a large race? Special event? Do you remember where the course ran?

would love to hear more about your times at the top of the sport. were you one of the 70s high mileage guys? i know we all were, but i've heard some were more extreme than others.

I have run hundreds of track, cross country and road races throughout the

U.S. I have all of my training and race records from 1965 through the late

1990's. Probably have the Mansfield Mini Marathon 15 km result sheet

somewhere. My records show that it was in Mansfield, the distance was

15km, the temp. was 80 degrees. I won the race in 47:12 which was a new

record. That is the extent of information about the race. A few weeks

later I flew to Eugene, Oregon for the Olympic Trials. Dave Wottle and

Sid Sink were college teammates who were also there.

Did you upload your own results to the ARRS website? There's an impressive list of races there for you. Well done.

I started running in the fall of '76, in grade eight. I miss those days of late '70s road and cross-country races. Even by the early 80s things were starting to change, technology making things easier though not always better.

Thanks for the interest ! Yes, I was one of those who ran 140+ mile

weeks. I did that mileage throughout most of the 70's. I ran about 12

full marathons and even more of the National AAU roadraceing

championships. Would like to share more about those and others at a

later time..

I think your number of $10k is off for the moon shoes.

There are more of them out there than originally thought.

Mr. Talkington, if my memory is correct did you have a daughter run at Carrolton HS? Remembering you as a coach in our area (New Philadelphia-Canton) some time in the 80's. I agree with one of the other posters, sometimes you have to put up with juvenile responses and watch out for the grammar and spelling nazis. But there is a lot of good stuff on here.

Yes, my daughter, Christina ran for Carrollton and Canton South. She was

State division 1 champion in cross country her sophomore year. She

finished 6th as a junior and 25th as a senior. A growth spurt and weight

gain got the best of her. I see this frequently with female runners. She was

about 5' tall and about 85 lbs. when she won. By her senior year she was

about 5'7" and 125 lbs.

Thanks for your comment. I'll have to get one of my daughters to help me

post a photo of the shoes. I haven't kept up with the technical aspects of

the computer, so I have to get a young mind, maybe my grandchildren,

to help. HaHa

Paul, I am also a BGSU grad, although I don't think we overlapped (I got there fall '73). I don't think we met, but met Dave and was on several runs with Sid, although he had already graduated. The pace was always much quicker when he ran w/ us!

One thing I always wondered: what happened to Sid that he set the AR in the steeple in '71, then was only 11th in it in the trials (although he was a close 4th in the 5k). I'm guessing he had some injuries?

It was pretty cool that BGSU had such a great running tradition for those years in the late 60's/early 70's.
