What is your prediction on Wardian in the famed Barkley marathons this weekend? It's his first right? Any chance he'll finish all the loops on his first go? I think he does the fun run distance and quits.

2 loops. I doubt he's prepared for the navigation and vert. distance doesn't even matter
I predict he finishes and wins.
Indoor marathon: 5:43/mile
Barkley marathon: 30:00/mile
Guy has zero experience (from what I know) in technical ultras, thru-hikes or multi-day events (7 in 7 doesn't count)
Good luck.
I hope he does as many laps as possible and then cruises on Patriot's Day, giving me a chance to finish ahead of him and claim a win over him.
he might make it 2 laps but i call he DNF after dat
Who dopes more Zablocki or Wardian?
I predict he makes 3, he's fast but doesn't have the experience in navigation to do it. Gary Robbins will destroy him
I think it is sad that we all jump to the doping conclusion so quickly. I am not immune to it either, but it is sad.
Some guys are built for high volume. While I could not imagine doing what he is doing, I have to wonder how much running a bunch of 2:30-2:32 marathons takes out of a guy who had sub 2:18 ability.
Is there reason to believe Wardian has ever done anything illicit other than his performances in and of themselves?

Since you seem to "know" that they both dope, you must have conclusive evidence, and would know the answer to your question. How about you present that evidence here? Otherwise admit that you are making unfounded accusations.
And don't bother responding unless you do one or the other, or it will just prove that you have no idea what you are talking about.

He's finished UTMB a few times. Not stellar finishes, but he's not a big technical runner typically, as noted. If he can hang with Gary or anybody else through the fun run, I think he'll make that, but I agree with others that the navigation could prove problematic later. I hope he gets out there, has a blast, and stays uninjured.

Wardian has been doing some training with Kelly for Barkley. He can easily just hang with Robbins for the first 3 loops (much like Robbins did last year with Campbell thru 4 loops). This would set him up well for 4 at least (if Robbins doesn't drop him). All bets are off on loop 5 if you get there when you have to go opposite loops.
Great group this year. Robbins, Kelly, Jamil Coury, Wardian, Benoit Laval and Brandon Stapanowich. All could finish.
Nice write up on Stapanowich. Dude is a beast.

I don't think the distance or hills etc. are a problem, it's whether or not he is any good at reading maps and route finding with a compass etc. It doesn't sound like anybody here knows this or not, so it's impossible to really make a good guess. However, if he's smart and does what Gary did last year - hang with someone who's been there before and can help him figure out the route, then he could win. It's just the last loop where he would be on his own that he would need to keep it together.
Prediction - He wins going away.
I'd like to see Mike do well. Honestly he's one of the few runners I'd be genuinely disappointed in if he is a doper.
Having said that I would be surprised if he finishes. His landnav skills are relatively new and unless he ghosts Gary the entire race then I won't have good expectations.

You are correct partially, this is not a race, no one wins, its a challenge. No matter the talent level or fitness level this is just plain very different than anything he has done before. This is not a speed event, its a finish event, not first man across its any person across, only 14 runners have finished over the years. Yes people run more loops than others, faster loops than others, the race though is judged on who can finish all five loops in 60 hours or less.
The course will be different this year, so Robbins may have a hard time as well if he "ghosted" last year.
Why wouldn't a guy like Wardian just identify the best orienteer and latch on? And why wouldn't Gary stagger start them in order to prevent this? Maybe that's not logistically feasible.
I don't care who you are, running a 2:29 a week before one of the nastiest ultra races is a terrible ideathe marathon takes a lot out of you, more than you sometimes even know or feel, and running one less than 10-11 days before is absolutely unhelpful physically.even if he does finish, all he proves is that he is determined and tough.who cares, it's not like stud runners do that racecool course. cool history. cool race director though - i'm tempted to go watch it after seeing the documentary and reading about some of the lore
