I once pulled a hamstring five miles from home on lonely country roads and had to walk limpingly the whole way back, but it was a nice day for a long walk and there was nothing epic about it except the duration. I'm sure others have much more epic tales to tell, particularly those who started running, like me, in the pre cell phone days.
