I recently read that a new Guinness WR was set at the 2017 LA Marathon for running the marathon dressed as a car. The record is 5:45 and I think it needs to be reset. By me. I've run in the 2:30s for a marathon and have experience building a cardboard car costume. Once ran under 6min pace for 5k carrying a cardboard car.
I'd like to try to set this record later this spring, hopefully around the time that Nike tries their sub2 marathon so I can mock it by making my race a sub3 attempt.
The Eugene Marathon is May 13th. It's a couple hours away so hopefully I can fit my car in my car! If I am to attempt this quickly I'll need to get on the construction immediately.
I'm an engineer but I'll take any tips I can get. The plan is to make the car about 5-6' long and 2' wide, hopefully to scale whenever possible. The model of the car will be the 2001 Jeep Cherokee, as it seems easy to build and it fairly recognizable. Cherokee also rhymes with sub3.
Design:
Built primarily of cardboard and hot glue/duct tape
20"Wx20"Hx72"L
Supported by straps that rest on my shoulders so I can run hands-free intermittently
Has to closely resemble a Jeep Cherokee
Able to withstand 3hrs of running at 9mph
Ideas? Can it be done? Idea for a better model vehicle?
