classic example of american society fighting to take steps backwards rather than getting on board with what the rest of the world is doing. why would you change the NCAA championship events to make them different from what the rest of the world runs and what is the standard for international competition? makes no sense to me.

Why would the NCAA take its cues from a different association? The NCAA is COLLEGE athletics, not a pre-international competition league. The mile means more to the 98% of runners who will never make a dime running post college. That is reason enough to go to the mile.
It's amazing to me that with all the problems professional track has, people still want to blur the line between college and professional as much as possible.
