I'm a junior guy in HS and am running a track 5k next week.
My coach wants me to break 18 for the first time. He is super serious about this. He is putting like 3 or 4 other guys to pace me ("run 87's for as long as they can") for under 18.
The problem is, I don't think I am capable of breaking 18 right now. Maybe 18:20 but not 18 probably. My PR's are a 5:13 1600 and a 11:31 3200. The 3200 was paced extremely poorly and I think I could maybe break 11:20 in a better paced race.
an 11:20 is 5:40 pace and 18:00 is 5:47. However, my mile vdot says I can break 18. What should I expect?
