Background info: I'm a sophomore. Been running since 7th grade. progression is as follows. 7th grade mile: never ran one outside of PE but probably about 6:40. 8th grade mile: improved a lot, 5:40. 9th grade xc: 18:17 for 3 miles. 9th grade mile: 4:45. 9th grade 800m: 2:10. 9th grade 3200m: 10:46. Sophomore xc: 17:35 for full 5k. Keep in mind I live at about 5500 feet altitude.
So obviously I'm better in the mile than anything else and the more distance that gets added the worse I get. I'm more of a speed based runner I guess? Anyways, after cross country my ankle started having problems. Achilles tendonitis in the left ankle. Got so bad that I stopped training for a few weeks. I'll be back tomorrow hopefully. It's an injury that started end of freshman track season and just got really bad recently. It's going to be something I have to deal with all my life probably.
Here's the problem now. Running fast hurt my ankle more meaning that if I run the 800 and 1600, it's going to come back this season. Coach will only let me run 3200's. I agree with him about this, running something at a slower pace will be better for me this season. But as previously stated, I'm a speed based runner. My attention being fully on the two mile this year is going to be tough. How can I get my 3200m time down?
