I've enjoyed researching the history of on-board marathons (and 50k's) on cruise ships, including on these forums. I just finished a week-long cruise on the Holland America Eurodam. Being that there's no jogging track and they don't allow running on the one deck that actually encircles the ship (the designated walking "track"), and despite my request that went all the way to corporate for an exception to that rule, I decided to do one on the treadmill in the ship gym. To do so, I obtained the manual for the Precor 946i treadmills and used the maintenance code to reset the machine to no time limit. I completed 26.25 miles, so assuming the machine was accurately calibrated, I ran enough to satisfy the extra 0.1% required by USATF in the certification rules. Unfortunately, that model doesn't report time in seconds after 60 minutes, so out of an abundance of fairness (and anal retentiveness), I rounded my 3:28:xx time up to 3:29. Three days later, on our next at-sea day, I replicated the endeavor, but kicked it up a notch (despite throwing back at least 8 beers in Cozumel the day before) and ran a sub-3:11 time, which again I'm perfectly happy to call a 3:11:00. That's a BQ for me, if a treadmill could qualify. I know I'm not the fastest treadmill marathon runner, or probably even cruise-ship-treadmill-marathon runner, but I'm thinking and hoping this is some sort of unofficial record to do 2 of them 3 days apart. There were no witnesses per se, but I did video record the entire duration of both runs, so once I figure out where and how to post over 50 GB of video, I can offer some level of proof. I'm not out to beat anyone but myself and inspire some friendly competition. Cheers!
