How should you handle starting a 1600 when everyone in your heat is within 5 secs of each other and super agressive for the first lap?

sprint your first lap as if you're doing an 800m. If you usually run a 4:40, I'd run the first lap in 61 - 65 seconds. You want to be in front of the race to intimidate them. It's all about getting out in the front pack and sprinting hard
Go out in last and pass everyone when they inevitably fade hard at 1200 meters
