Poor people often stereotype rich people as being obsessed with money, but in my experience, poor people are way worse than rich people in this regard. If I'm going to dinner with regular people, we just pick a restaurant we like and we go. The odds that money will come up as a topic of conversation outside of telling the waiter we want separate checks is basically zero.
If a poor person is in the group, we have to start the whole process with some big discussion about what the menu prices are like at each possible dining location, whether there are any specials, and whether that $10 appetizer is big enough to constitute a full meal. If the group has more than one poor person, it is almost guaranteed that they will devote at least a portion of the dinner conversation to how much they get paid.
Why do poor people insist on bringing up money constantly? They would find it incredibly rude if I went around blabbing about how much I make and the price of everything I buy.
