Let me preface this by saying I am a college track coach and love track and field with all my heart. Our sport will never be taken seriously because AD's and those who are in charge continue to put a bandaid over a bullet hole.
What do I mean look at the job boards: GA, grad assisistant, graduate asst, GA, GA, GA, grad asst, graduate assistants
How can anyone accomplish anything when your programs are being led by people with little experience and to top that off are gone after 2 years!? A 5 year athlete will have 3 coaches with the current GA riddled system.
It would be nice to see athletic departments pony up and pay 4-5 actual coaches like they do for football and basketball. This is feasible. While I know track meets don't have huge gates, what they do have is usually the second largest team on a campus behind football, which means a school is making $ off track on the number alone of track and field student athletes.
Just my two cents.
