Is there a rule against watching the pistol at the start of a race.
I've always watched the pistol because light travels faster than sound and you get a couple milliseconds better reaction by reacting to the smoke rather than waiting for the sound.
One meet in HS, the starter pointed at me at the start of the race and told me to stop looking at the gun.
I assumed he was a stickler for some rule about watching the gun, I didn't watch it for that race, and was never hassled about it again for the remainder of my HS and College days.
Got thinking about that incident for no particular reason and now I want to know if its actually a rule. A cursory Google search proved fruitless.
