What's odd?
Pics?
Temps below -4F for an average of 28 days every year. And it's a looooong way to the beach...
Almost everyone has a better skyline than Los Angeles.
Let's move to Edmonton wrote:

having lived in both Edmonton and Calgary, I would say Calgary has a better skyline than Edmonton so not even the best in its own province.
This is nonsense. Calgary is a hellhole. Edmonton is beautiful - a gorgeous river valley with hundreds of miles of great trails. The only good thing about Calgary is that the mountains are less than an hour away.
Edmonton doesn't get the Chinooks Calgary does. Winter in Edmonton is a serious business. That said, it's politically and culturally progressive in interesting ways. Calgary just wants to be Dallas North.

to each their own....I agree the Edmonton river valley is beautiful but that's not a skyline is it? Edmonton's downtown is horrible with nothing to look at. looking west, you can see the mountains as part of Calgary's skyline which makes it better imo

well, depends. On the business side of things, maybe you're right. but on the social/lifestyle aspect there are a huge amount of people into the outdoors/active lifestyle since its so close to the mountains
Edmonton does have a much more beautiful skyline in Calgary, and as far as running goes, it's not even close.... I've run in almost every major city in Canada and the US and Western Europe, and the only one that even comes close to running in Edmonton ( hundreds of miles of trails and paved bike paths along the river or otherwise) is MAYBE Vancouver....
But try training through the winter for a Spring marathon....6 months of inhospitable temperatures, snow, ice, the DARK....doing 20 milers on the TM is a way of life for a lot of marathon runners in Edmonton.
Canada is awesome in the summer. In the winter, Whistler is nice. Truth be told, there is nothing all that beautiful about a city skyline. The beautiful thing about Canada is all of the places where there is no development. Give me a cirque lake in the Canadian Rockies or a canoe trip on one of the myriad of lakes and rivers on the Canadian Shield where there is no one around to any city any day.

Can you show me a picture of this great skyline of Edmonton? The couple comments here are the first I've ever heard of people thinking Edmonton's is better than Calgary..and that's from people from either city.
And...I don't think Calgary's is great either..but better than Edmonton. At least you can see mountains
As for running, what part of it makes it better? Calgarys pathway system is larger than Edmonton's so more variety...but I guess views in Edmonton river valley are better. Curious why you'd say not even close

I just think it's odd that a canadian prairie city that most people never even think about looks more impressive than LA, Atlanta, Phoenix, Boston, etc.

I've run 20-milers in both Edmonton and Calgary, and always find Calgary to be really boring in terms of scenery, probably because it's much less green.
I've also run marathons in Edmonton and Calgary - on the old and new courses in both cities - and also find Edmonton's marathon much prettier. (Not to mention - faster.)

Well that's because Los Angeles is a very ugly city. Phoenix isn't ugly, just boring. Atlanta has some nice parts in downtown and certain suburbs. Overall I think Boston would be great to live, in terms of being a cool city with such a large and competitive running community. (Although, not sure if you can run 20 miles there without stopping at a traffic light like you can in Edmonton?)
But don't get me wrong, I've actually travelled from Alberta to LA for a weekend just to get in a long training run because our weather is so bad. If I had the means financially, I would move somewhere like San Diego where I could run outside in shorts all year long.
Then you have a very limited imagination. Put your thinking cap on. Focus your brain on the specific issue at hand. Does Edmonton have a bettter skyline than LA? Answer - yes. See, that wasn't so hard.

Yeah, I do agree the river valley in Edmonton is a great space and more lush green but as mentioned I think there are more spaces to run in Calgary like alongside the river, nose hill park, Bowmont park, fish creek park, etc...and that's not taking into account winter months where there are chinooks often to clean the snow away. I only had about a weeks worth of none running this winter from conditions being too bad
and.....I still disagree about the skyline but of course we all see things differently

You mad, bruh?

There's something to be said for that.
