Old guy here-65. In the chute or just out of it, I usually try to make some positive comments to my fellow runners, especially those who I may have raced against. Kids mostly, running 20 minute 5's, and sometimes in the 19's so it's fun to compete with them, and it keeps me going.
9.9 times out of 10, I will get a blank stare from hollow eyes...and then the kid will proceed to throw up.
One time I even got a response; " I can't believe you beat me!!!" and turned his back to walk away.
So, what is it with the youth of today? Can't they engage in a 20 second conversation without checking their phone? Can't they accept that an old geezer just beat them? Do they even have the capacity to speak to another fellow runner?
Peace out.
