Actually, a lot of prominent musicologists who study the nitty-gritty of this stuff use Rocket 88 as a general watershed moment where R&B becomes rock.

Actually, Mayballene was released in 1955. But the point is taken. But the real truth about R&R is more cynical. It is a racial term coined by white disc jockeys. The meaning of Rock & Roll was basically white people playing (or trying to play) black R&B.

Anyone with two eyes can look it up and see that Berry's first hits came out in '56. Bill Haley and the Comets first hits came out in the early '50s. Clearly Haley invented Rock & Roll.
Additionally, 'Rock Around The Clock' still gets lots of radio time to this day.
Hail to Berry? He did not invent Rock & Roll. Also, he was pretty much a slimebag. He was imprisoned three different times, for statutory rape, armed robbery and sexual assault. He also videotaped women getting dressed in one of his clubs. He was later found with videos of these naked women in his home after a raid. These offences happened throughout his life, young, middle aged and old.

Jerry Lee Lewis invented rock and roll.
And if someone punched Keith Richards in that catchers mitt of a face it would only improve it.
are we still arguing about this really; THE TRENIERS:
Louis Jordan with the Johnny Be Good lick in 1946 (Chuck Berry admits he got it from there):

the basics of which were first embodied by the platters as I mentioned before.
Uh, no. The basics of R&R were not embodied by the Platters.

Well, that's what is rock and roll.
Folks, you're missing the point. Rock & Roll invented Chuck Berry. We're all the better for it. The end.
And for what it's worth, rock 'n' roll wasn't truly born until Link Wray punched holes in his amp speaker to get that sound.

With a resume like that, he should have run for POTUS!
OP is correct. Also, Eminem invented rap, Kenny G virtually created the genre of Smooth Jazz singlehandedly and without Hall and Oates, there would be no soul music.
Marty McFly covering Chucky Berry invented it.

Chuck Berry is a legend. He influenced the beatles and other bands. They covered a lot of his songs. I originally thought roll over beethoven was theirs, but it's his.
fixed that for you
