Male sophomore in high school. Ran XC last season but no prior running experience, didn't take anything serious last season probably 10-20 mpw average.
Now in track, definitely want to get better. 800 PR is 2:26, 1600 5:46, 3200 12:52. I'm thinking my aerobic base was never built and I am halfway through the season.
I've been building up my mileage and I'm about 30mpw now, just following 10% rule. Track coach is giving us speed workouts which makes sense for this time of season (varsity has regionals late this march, jv has regionals mid april). Should I just ignore them and do tempos/intervals to build aerobic or just wait until this summer and continue being shit?
I know I have decent speed in comparison to my endurance, my first lap of my PR 800 yesterday was at 63 (obviously way too fast) and I wasn't going all out.
