Last year, these twins were trashing Kenya every which way they could, saying the country was vile, non-compliant and should be banned from the Olympics because we allegedly had a systematic doping regime as bad as Russia's (ridiculous claim by the way). Zane, I think, even went so far as to claim that he had received death threats and implied that Kenyans were savages out to murder him. Last I heard, they had relocated to Ethiopia vowing never to set foot in Kenya again.
That episode, no matter how brief, will forever cloud my opinion of these two and tarnish whatever achievements as far as I'm concerned. The sheer hatred of the comments, for a country and a people who'd welcomed, accommodated and trained them for a decade was shocking and spoke to their complete lack of character. Maybe it's a cultural thing?
I wonder what changed in the few months from being completely "done" with Kenya to moving back to that 'filthy, cheating, backward country' so quickly and embracing it again in their frankly, exploitative, self-promotinal videos? Wasn't Ethiopia welcoming enough? Don't they have their pick of high altitude sites in Europe and America to choose from? These two should take a good hard look at themselves, asking serious questions about honour and gratitude and why, after having lived in a country for that long, they have never really been accepted unlike several other foreigners who've made the same journey.
Anyway, good luck to them.
