Let us say I am a meet director trying to set up a 3:46,x mile attempt . What do I ask the pacers to hit at 200,400,600,1000 and 1200?
20 years ago Vénuste Niyongabo had two races, one 3:46.70 the other 3:48.26 and never placed higher than 3rd.

~25.5-26.0
~53.5-54.5
~1'21.5 - 1'22.5
~ 2'19.5 - 2'20.5
~ 2'48.5 - 2'49.5
that should do it.

Those aren't ideal imo; too fast on 1st lap.
Best is always even pace, so 440yds of 56.5, 1:53.0, 2:49.5 would be the most comfortable way of running a 3:46 mile in an ideal world.
That works out at 28.1 for 200m, 56.2 for 400m, 1:24.3 for 600m, 1:52.4 for 800, 2:20.5 for 1000m and 2:48.6 for 1200m.
That being said, they always go out slightly faster on 1st lap, so realistically you're looking at 27.5 for 200m, 56.0 for 440, 1:52.5 for 880, 2:49.5 for 3/4.
When El G set the mile WR he had very even laps. Only differed by 1.0sec.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
