I'd like to know, anyone can use any random name to post. How many here have even broke 20 in the 5k?

This is LR where everyone is sub 13:30 in 100 degree heat, 100% humidity, and 60 MPH head winds.
That's my goal this year (was also my goal last year:sidenote)
Current PR a high 20:nn , so bunch more work to still do
Busted out some 3x1 mile repeats in the 6:3n range with 400 walks between (yea too much rest) so I'm feeling like this might be my year. Lmao
I have. My PRs are 16:04 (track), 16:08 (road) which were both set when I was 41 years old. These days, at the age of 58, I'm running between 19:30-20:00, depending on the course.
Sigh. Getting old is tough.
Me. But everyone on this board has run sub 15, makes 100k+ a year, and has a supermodel wife, so not really worth asking.
I ran 20:55 at sea level 3 years ago, I moved to altitude and am much better fitness but still cannot hit sub 21 here :( (I'm at 7,000ft)
thats my cool down after 16 @ 4:40 pace.
Probably 90% of the males on this site can or once could break 20 minutes, and among the few females, I'd bet around half could. So around 85% of all posters.
You're not going to get an appropriate sample this way, and given LRC's large traffic, quite a few posters and viewers have run impressive times in most of the distances.
I've never broken 20 in an open 5k, my best time was 20:0x. I always start too fast and die.
However, if this split was accurate in a half marathon, I've gone thru four miles in 6:19 pace. I think that is roughly 19:30 for 5k. In case you were curious, I ran 1:32 mid for the race which is billed as the hardest half in Texas.

I ran a road 5K last year in 18:38 at age 56. Pretty sure I'll be in the 17"s again this year. 16:38 at age 53.
That's insane that there are males that here that have never broken 20 in the 5k.
Most males here should have at some point since being here implies that you care deeply about performance and if you care about performance, getting below 20 as a guy does not take very long.
17:11 a couple years ago
Pretty sad PR actually
I got below 20 in the 5k, i do agree just being consistent with training along with some running faster than a 6:26 pace every so often any guy should be able to get there. I know plenty of younger women that can too. I haven't met a chick over 50 that could break 20, but i know a few that are over 40 that can.
20 minutes for 5K isn't very fast for males. Even with the in-jokes about how everyone claims to run sub-15:00, 20 minutes isn't much of a bar. It's hard to imagine any male who has run on a team in high school or higher not topping that. I'm in my 50's and I still do it easily
I ran 17:xx. Now a masters runner, frequently injured, could maybe run 22. I don't miss running those times, but do miss feeling healthy.
I am sure all runners capable of: 1) sub-2:15 800m, 2) sub-5:28 1600m, 3) sub-5:30 one mile, 4) sub-41 10K & 5) sub-3:15 Marathon.
Not anymore, close a couple of years ago but muscle wastage starting to really kick in now.
Upper 15s in college but 50 now and can't break 20. I have not been training much in the last decade but it is a goal again. About to hit a 6 to 7 mile long run. It is sad that this is my long run now. I remember the day when it was an easy short run. Sad
