Did people make fun of you in high school for working extra hard?

No. I didn't go to a poor people high school, so my classmates valued hard work.

Just keep at it. I was in a similar situation and was the only one who ran on the weekends and offseason. You'll get better. Injuries happened to everyone. You probably dont need to weeks off do some research. Most pedestrians aren't sports doctors and their answer to everything is time off. Have you seen your schools trainer?

I started working harder in the Summers and winters. Some of the other runners said that I worked too hard and would injure myself. I was the best runner in the school for the last two years without a major injury. People love to be haters more than actually putting in the hard work.

This. I went to a private school, and you could see kids from every team staying after school for practice, whether they were in season or not. Weird how we always beat up on inner city schools in every sport despite having an almost all white student population...

How were your paces/times before the injury?

Spend some time on that injury. If your parents are supportive of your running, try to find an athletic physiotherapist in your area to walk you through recovery and strengthening. If they aren't then don't be afraid to post here.

You are getting first-hand experience of why high school sucks. The work matters. You are doing the right thing. Stick with it.

I worked extremely hard compared to your definition of "working hard".

The thing is I never had my hand out for attention and never thought what I did was that big of a deal. Therefore nobody could take anything away from my hard work. In fact they would casually just ask how it was going or bring up that they saw me running the other day. Sometimes the casual passer by would even say they saw me "jogging".

Big whoop. 5:45 pace vs 8:45 pace makes no difference to them so why be concerned about what they say?

The true distance runner is humble and keeps their workouts to themself. Let's their actions speak louder than words. Doesnt become self absorped.

So if they are telling you you are wasting your time maybe they are right. Maybe you should shut up about running and not care about their perception. Just do it to do you but not let it define you. The only person that allows that statement to bother you is you. So find ways that doesnt allow it to bother you.

LOL YOU GUYS HIT IT RIGHT ON THE HEAD!!!! This high school that I attend is indeed poor. I find it funny that you could spot the connection!

I am positive that this is a good doctor, she ran in College D1, so she should know what she is doing. This injury recurred I had it around 3 weeks ago, but it just went away so I thought I was fine. Until time trials and at the start of the 400 I could not move my leg through the full range of motion... My leg would kind of scrape up against the floor and there was somewhat of a pain in my ass.

I am in no way "self absorbed". However, I did tell everyone what my goal for the mile was this year and it's somewhere in the ballpark of 4:30. So, I guess in some ways you are right, but I didn't do this for attention. I want to make our program better, so I would always encourage people to run with me in the offseason. Most of them just told me to stfu, but for the people that did run with me over the summer they ran sub 5:10 at time trials. I suppose you would have no idea of the team culture that we have on our team, but I can give you a general idea of it... it is dog shit

My times are bad compared with letsrun standards but here you go...

Long runs typically 10 to 12 miles 7:20 to 7:40 at the slowest.

Easy pace around 7:50

Mile time 5:10

5k 18:28 (irrelevant 1st year of cross have no idea how to pace, would go out at mile PR for the 1st mile)

Want to hit 4:35 to 4:40 by the end of the season

I know a guy who graduated with a special education diploma, was a cutup throughout school, disrespectful to teachers and guess what? He's in better shape than I am.

He's a millionaire more than likely, having run his seafood market and restaurant for 6 years now. Money was always his thing. he started working at 13 in restaurants and wanted to own a restaurant one day and now he's done it. Some of the best garlic crabs around.

If you make an addictive product people are willing to buy, to hell with good grades in the long run. Sometimes, being rich is more important than being enlightened as this guy's situation proves.

In hindsight, if I had to choose between getting good grades and being an entrepreneur with business sense and less book smarts, I'd choose the latter.

We slave away getting a degree just so that we can work for someone else. There is no freedom in working for others. The bes freedom is being your own boss, an entrepreneur.

Um, not exactly true across the board, I grew up in a city that was one of the wealthiest in the state, still plenty of lazy teammates and took my share of flack.

I'm not trying to knock on your goals or anything, but are 5:10 to 4:30 jumps normal? I ve run 4:50 and was hoping for 4:40 this year. What grade are you in? Not sure if I should be aiming higher.

People who surrender to being mediocre will laugh at anyone who does not. They are pathetic and only socially accept their fellow pathetic demographic of compatriots. Everyone not like them is excluded and labelled different or weird.

I actually have no idea, that time trial was run 2 weeks before track started. I just wanted to do a practice run by myself, so it was run alone, so idk if it's an accurate representation of what I could run. I am currently a Sopehmore and I think it's a good goal to go into the high 4:30s to low 4:40s. As to your question if you should aim higher, it depends if you ran over the winter. I took running over the winter very seriously my coach gave me a schuduele and I did everything on it.

People make fun of people in high school because they're either immature, stupid or aholes.

You'll forget this about 5mins into college.
