Bekele has gotten his ass handed to him by Kipchoge twice in the marathon but has more speed and talent. What's your point?

Bekele's issue is his health, he has trouble staying healthy these days. His original training for the marathon had inconsistent results, mainly because he never ran long runs, according to Hermes. He's also the biggest talent and engine to ever compete at the distance, so he's been able to be competitive with lower volumes. But his record is 2 wins, 2 losses, 2 DNFs compared to Kipchoge superior record.
There's no obsession with high mileage, it just generates a better foundation for the race. I don't see how you can argue that...
