Nice going old guy. What kind of shape are you in? Why not more races? Enjoy the competition and your excellent health. Wish I was going.
I haven't raced indoor yet this year so its going to be interesting. Its rounds and final so didn't really want to do too much on the boards. Im mostly going for the fun I Have been doing 5k races best this winter 19:13
You are Mater Too? what event
There is a fellow Brit who will be hosting a stream on his site, I'd say use that help a fellow master out
I'm doing the M40 800 after that I'm of to Japan for 2 weeks
Are you going to the athletes party?
Thanks sent the link to family good site
Not going to the party, I have a boat trip booked for the same night
Staying at the Novatell, you?
Just done my last morning run, wish me luck
Unbelievable amount of Koreans entered with no times, hard to know how tough this going to be.

Good luck OGR I'm no longer going as pulled my hammy few weeks ago and just not healing!
Thanks Freemo have a good one
That's sad to hear AJ
I've just done my first run here, air is a little thick and very built up. Going to the centre to register ready
Race is tomorrow for me, bed time now.
Be around 11pm 'today' for eastern folks
US is 3rd in the medal table, with the Brits and Ozzies leading
Best of luck!
Good luck! Be sure to give us a detailed rare report. And let us know what the atmosphere is like there.
Had a look through the results and they were so poor across the board and without 100s of Koreans filling up the events the attendance was not much better. Time for Standards to be implemented as other federations use to stop joggers getting World Titles?

standards maybe...but better would be having the meet in North America or Western Europe...who can go to Australia or SK? I know it can be hard to find a willing host, but this will only be a real meet if it is in Paris on NY or London or the like.
Totally devalues the Champs when Athletes who cannot make finals when its in Europe or North America are winning because no one can afford to compete in far flung places.
I'm an avid and competitive masters athlete, so don't take this the wrong way, but these meets really hold little value under any circumstances from a true measuring stick standpoint. It is great for folks to have the opportunity to race at a meet, and it is a great way to travel and experience other cultures; but the results from these meets do not in any way give any meaningful indication of where one stands on the world masters scene.
These "World" meets for Masters will never truly be competitive events when only a handful of competitors can cover the expenses of a 7-10 day meet. I have considered these meets in the past but can't justify the $$'s and family time away (if family travels - double $'s).
With that said - there are some occasional great marks. But too often I see pictures of winners lapping several competitors at the finish. Blah, blah
Cheers
That's true even of the national meet. Twice as many guys were over 10:20 for the 3000 (6), as went under 9:30 (3). The best mile time was high 4:43.
Not demeaning the meets, just emphasizing that they are not meaningful as championship events.

I dont think anybody is under the illusion that these are true "championship" meets. People go because they are higher competition than any other meet for masters.
Also, a bunch of like minded people all going to an event is fun. It is like going to the homebrew national conference, or any other convention for a hobby. The home brew conference also has a competition that declares the winner the best in the nation, but that is of course ridiculous because of the sheer number of beers not entered.

+1
going to a big meet is the fun - and if you get to wear your nation's colors it is all the more special.
