Rest in peace you greatest of all time age group runner.
Rest in peace you greatest of all time age group runner.
RIP Ed W.
My personal wish is to keep running into my last years. Ed lived the dream most people fail to; doing something you love until your last days.
Rest in peace, dear Ed. We love you. We will miss you. The world is not the same without you.
Very sad news. What an inspiration to all runners and people, of all ages.
R.I.P
Like others, I would graciously request a black page for Ed.
The splash page is now up.http://www.letsrun.com/splash-page/ed-whitlock-died/I think this news hit a lot of us pretty hard. I corresponded with Ed two months ago. I wish I had written back but literally the last words Ed wrote to me were "Congratulations on the success of your website. A great resource for those interested in track and field."That really means a lot coming from him but I didn't write him back. Life is too short my friends. Ed made the most of it.

Ed Whitlock was #1.
I think he would be a lot of people's #1 on here. He represented what it means to be a runner.
Ed's words in the press release on his death were, "I am not one to stand up on the stage and say ‘you all can do this." Ed was an inspiration not because he told us we can do this, but because he went out and did it. We all could appreciate that. He'll be missed.
The looks on kids' faces I coach when I told them about him last October was priceless. They could hardly fathom how someone their great grandfather's age could do what he did, let alone run at all.
Ed was a testament to how we can inspire others by living a humble life with passion.
Thanks Brojos
I'm very shocked and saddened to hear this news. Ed has been a tremendous inspiration to me, and will continue to be as long as I'm still alive and breathing.
I saw Ed run at the World Masters Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Sacramento in 2011. I was in total awe of how he floated around the track so lightly and smoothly. One of my favorite quotes comes from Jackie Robinson, which is so appropriate to Ed. "A life is not so important except for the impact that it has on other lives." He has certainly inspired me and many others. RIP
Wow, this makes me really sad...what a legend and an inspiration.
RIP.
What a life he had.
What a great man, whom I can only aspire to live like, humbly and with utmost perseverance in his endeavors. RIP Ed.

Jackie and Ed...what great human beings.
I sit here at my dinner table, and toast the life and running of the great Ed Whitlock...a toast of red wine to you, dear Ed.
I wish I could have run with him.
2:54 at age 73 is still insane to me. RIP
A few more great photos.

When I read this, I was shocked.
Reading all the posts, I almost cried.
But now?
Damn!
I have a smile on my face.
Thank you, Ed, for all you have shared with us.
Thank you for posting here.
Thank you for the example.
I hope to have the opportunity to talk to you one day.

Ed Whitlock was #1.
Not only are Ed's performances astounding, but nobody even on LR accused him of PED use. Or of course-cutting, or any other unethical behavior. He might be the only runner in the history of this board who has commanded this much respect.
If any of you think you can beat his times at 70+, keep us updated. We'll be watching here...
Well said.
Very shocked and saddened to hear of his death a simply remarkable man. Rip Ed I hope your are running in heaven. God bless.
You were the best, Ed. We'll miss you.
