Dude, again?
Dude, again?
In the Individual Honors won section we only have
Millrose HS Mile 1st
I believe his PRs of 334 and 352 both came in last chance meets when he already had a Q time.
are we seeing another 'good Leo/bad Leo' in the making?
He hoped to get a sniff at DL meets with a 3;52 but with out a national champs medal to round out the introduction that might not happen.
Sure you know the race is going to be slow tactical but he should have been up front from the gun not 7 deep in the pack.
Disappointing.
Uh no, Leo was about as clutch in US champs for years and years as anyone could be. Though admittedly that's speaking to his outdoors champs and I don't remember if he ever did much at US indoors.
It looked like the NJNY crew had an off meet in general, so I don't know what to make of it. Merber still finished ahead of Gregorek and Palmer really tanked. Giesting ran decent.

Good Merber is not as good as good Leo, bad Merber is nowhere near as horrendously bad as bad Leo.
Deer in headlights in big races.
Kyle reminds me of a praying mantis. Those black ear studs look more horrendous than bad leo dying down the backstretch to 4:21.92.
To clarify, I don't dislike Merber (it seems everyone else on this thread does, for some strange reason) and I was just sticking up for Manzano given the comparison was made. I would say that this was the first US championship where I expected KM to be a factor so it's not exactly a long history.
At least he doesn't wear that choker necklace anymore. Reminded me of the ones you could buy in Panama City over spring break.

Hey, take it easy. the dude is from long island. He can't help if he has no style.
Pretty sure Merber's PB came from Furman Elite 1500 and was his first time under 3:39 since he ran 3:35 college. Back was against the wall with tons of pressure and he delivered. I bet Merber thought it more important to drop that 3:52 than place at a meaningless national champs race!
Yeah Merber honestly had a really solid indoor season. Lots of races, a few PBs, etc. Probably just a little tired by the time championships came around. I don't think he's too concerned with it, though. Not like these indoor championships meant a whole lot. I bet he's pretty happy with his indoor campaign.

I don't dislike Merber either. You could even call me a fan but that does not prevent me from pointing out he has under performed in championship settings in relationship to a 3:34.mid PR from may'15.
I grant some of that underperforming has been do to injury or illness but keeping healthy is part of your overall performance profile.
I fully expect him to lower his 1500 PR and be a sub 3:50 miler early in this Olympic cycle. I'm just not sure he will assemble many honors in the championship setting.
do you think that he will like to do interviews with LRC now???
ha ha ha
what fun
rojo-wejo
Was curious so I went back to look at results. 6th in 2015 behind Centro, Leo, Andrews, Wheating, and Blankenship. Can't say he was favored against any of them.
9th last year wasn't great but not terrible. Not a guy who would've been considered in the mix for the team.
Not really sure that these are indicative of a choke artist, but to each their own.
Sub 3.50 for merber? Hahahahaha!
Do we have a 1500 split on KMs 3:52.22
guessing 3:36.0-3:36.5
If a wizard came to you and offered an "inconsistent" career with times of little to no sponsorship, a couple medals, solid PRs and a few last place finishes would you take it?

Yes?
I think if Merber continues to run the way the rest of his indoor season went, he will have a shot at the Worlds team this summer. One poor performance at the indoor championships isn't something to make a big deal over. He got 9th at the trials last summer, but as far as I know he wasn't really healthy. In the same field this year, he has been running better than 5 of the guys who finished ahead of him.

Kyle has had a few bad races when it counts, not one. Could he become the next Will Leer?
