I realize it's an unorthodox combo..having a fair amount muscle definition (especially upper body) while maintaining the rigorous training that comes with being a collegiate distance runner.
I'm a freshman, but I've always floated around having twigs for arms and having a decent level of upper body strength when I felt like doing push-ups, pull-ups, etc. I'm currently 6'1" and around 165 lbs, so I'm a bit larger-framed for a distance runner.
Since I'm in college and and want to look stronger before I graduate with 50k in debt, I was wondering if it's possible to gain some of upper body mass through weights and calisthenics while maintaining training of 70+ miles a week.
Feel free to share what's worked for you, what hasn't, along with any other advice.
If it helps, I run for a D1 school that is usually the door-mat of our mid-major conference. I don't expect to be an All-American anytime soon.
