New Doping News on Alberto Salazar in Sunday Times

We really need to see the underlying report.

Most of us are relying on a Letsrun report of a Daily mail report of a leaked copy of a USADA document

Just out of curiosity, how did the newspaper that ran the story gain access to a private email between Salazar and Armstrong? I'm not questioning the veracity of the report, just confused as to how it became public. I understand Fancy Bears hacked WADA and USADA, but would this include personal correspondence between Salazar and Armstrong?

So, as I understand it, the USADA report to the Texas Medical Association (the one Fancy Bears hacked), included items and material that they asked for from Salazar and that he provided. Supposedly they provided over 3000 pages. I'm guessing the e-mail is included in that.

That email puts Salazar's intentions more in the clear if anything, in my opinion.

“Lance, call me asap! We have tested it and it’s amazing. You are the only athlete I’m going to tell the actual numbers to other than Galen Rupp. It’s too incredible. All completely legal and natural! You will finish the iron man in about 16 minutes less while taking this."

That just says to me that he is looking for any legal edge he can get. This sport is about tiny margins. If he finds some legal supplement that will take Galen to be Olympic champion then he is just playing the game and winning. There's no moral victories in the world of elite sport.

just because he says its legal doesn't mean it is. could have been a cover for something more sinister.

I was curious when I read the paragraph about Magness recieving 20x the amount of L-caritine (something like a liter in 4hrs), I was hoping maybe the Pharmiscist who responded in another thread about the max dosage of L-caritine, maybe he/she can shed light on how many mg that Magness got in that liter bag. Or is there a way to find out how many mg was mixed in a 50ml bag? I was trying to do the math but hard to tell exactly how many mg of L-cartine was in a 50ml bag w/o knowing the facts I guess.

Try to keep up. He gave out injections of over 20 times the legal limit, which makes it illegal.

according to some unsubstantiated report, after which exactly ZERO charges were brought against Salazar/Rupp/Farah, etc for these supposedly "illegal" activities. Yes, DO "try and keep up", indeed.

According to the report Nike provided interference to make USADAs job tougher. I wonder why?

He should retire... there is no redemption for people like him. He will always be tainted.

He should be ashamed of himself. He has done something that no coach should do or encourage. A coach should train his athletes not experiment on them- what a douche.

Email isn't private. Don't forget about the tons of discovery that must exist on Armstrong.

Magness has a PhD in physiology and he consented to getting injected with that much L-Carnitine? He could have died.

He will hand his NOP reign over to Rupp. That has always been the plan. Like Svengali, like Rupp.

Rupp will wear the crown while Salazar hides in a secret basement and sends text to Rupp telling him what new miracle drug he has discovered in the secret lab. Nike won't have a clue.

It seems like nothing is ever done. They clearly are up to something fishy or have been doing fishy things in the past. Just haven't been caught yet...

Makes no sense. Why would he lie excitedly in a private email to his friend? He could just use EPO or HGH or testosterone itself if he didn't care about the drugs being legal.

Salazar has proven time and time again that he just pushes things right up to the limit. He calls WADA and USADA and gets them to confirm if what he wants to try is legal and if they confirm it is he does it and tries to get a performance benefit.

These people are not running in local meets for fun. This is a multi billion dollar industry. The winners tend to take all and the losers not so much. Athletes in all sports do whatever they can to give themselves an edge.

Why is athletics the sport where we have to take some kind of moral high ground and suffer a headache rather than take paracetamol? Or lose a sprint race you have trained so hard for because everyone else is taking caffeine but you think it's wrong?

To the other guy, injecting a litre of even EPO into Steve Magness does not violate anti doping rules.

All the people who are speaking out against Salazar in the investigation were fired by Salazar. That in itself will make it harder to stick. Aside from an email or two without specifics, it is still he said she said. Steve Magness is trying to turn himself into a victim. He did not leave because of doping, he left for break company policy regarding morals.
