Hi All. Please help me out on my situation. I know this is long.
I suffered a stress fracture on my third metatarsal bone (left foot) in late December of 2015 (I know, it's been over a year). I was diagnosed with a stress fracture by a doctor at the same time, using an X-ray. This doctor, however, told me that my stress fracture will heal by itself, you can continue to walk, etc. I wasn't given a cast nor a walking boot.
From December 2015 to September of 2016, I left my stress fracture untreated. It did not get better at all. I complained to my parents (I am 18 years old), so I went to another doctor. This doctor gave me a walking boot in September of 2016. From September to mid-December 2016, I stayed at home most of the time. However, my foot was still hurting whenever I walked on it or put any pressure on it. The walking boot did not work.
I then went to a third doctor in mid-December. I took an MRI and the doctor confirmed there was still a stress fracture present on my left foot. I was finally given a cast which I wore for 4 weeks. After I took off the cast, I didn't feel the sharp pain I used to feel whenever I put pressure on the third metatarsal bone are.
This is my current situation. I believe the bone is healed, but the surrounding muscle or the nerve around the third metatarsal bone is still damaged. I've gone through many physical therapy sessions, but I can still feel that my foot is not 100%. I can do simple squats, or jog in place. However, I cannot do tip toes. Whenever I do tip toes on my left foot, I can feel the pain. I don't know if this pain is from the bone or the muscle/nerve.
I'm worried that the bone may not be fully healed. It has gotten better overall after taking the cast off. I can walk for maybe 10-15 minutes normally before it gets uncomfortable to walk.
I'm mad at the first doctor because if I was given a cast from the very beginning, it might've healed properly. I'm planning to get another MRI in the near future and see what that shows.
If the bone is indeed healed, how do I fix surrounding muscle or nerve dagame pain? I've gone through many massages, but it does not get better. I'm putting my foot in warm water 3 times a day.
Should I be put in a cast again, this time longer? I just hope this is not permanent.
