How smart do you have to be if you are a good high school runner/ what kind of SAT,ACT, and GPA do you need if you are a state champion who has run under 9:10-9:15, 4:20 and 15:20.

You can be as dumb as a brick. I know a kid who had 26 ACT but terrible GPA and went IVY. STAY WOKE.
That is the sliding scale for DI eligibility. While that outlines the minimum standard, that does not guarantee you can run for a school. Coaches can give you a good idea of what can get in their institution.
Is there any advantage to registering for NCAA eligibility if a runner is more likely a walk on student athlete than an athletic scholarship candidate? (1600/4:35, 10:05/3200, 16:35/ 5k XC times for a male +3.9 GPA, 1420 SAT/first attempt in Jr year)
The NCAA profile is free but to register is $80. Can an athlete still be contacted by or talk to Div I & II schools and pay the registration fee if he actually decides to go to a Div I or II school or in the unlikely event of being offered a recruiting trip? No coaches have been contacted yet as we are waiting for Junior year track times.
What about Div III and NAIA eligibility? It seems that there are plenty of "recruiting" services willing to take your money, but for track/XC, they don't really seem necessary.
Finally, for admission into a competitive school like Stanford, MIT, or CAL Tech, how much does being a potential athlete help? The SAT scores would need to improve a bit, but there's time to study this summer. Other than contacting the coach and mentioning running activities in the application letter/personal statement, are there any other suggestions?
None, unless you try a Pacademic-Nine school.
