HS senior here who is a mid 4:30s guy in the 1600m and a 10:00 3200m runner. I need to run close to 4:25 in the 1600 this spring to walk onto the team at the college I am attending next year. I'm willing to go all in with the training over the next three months, because if I don't hit the time, my competitive running career will be over. What type of training would you suggest in this situation that would help me make the jump? Indoor season is over now. Should I run high mileage until the outdoor meets start in April? Obviously, I am going to follow my coaches plan, but we have a pretty close relationship and he's open to experimenting. I can also double in the mornings to bump the mileage up, but I don't know if I'll reap the benefits from that in time.
