Pretty amazing stuff! 7 planets capable of containing liquid water and potentially support life around a small sun less than 40 light years away.
We are not alone.

I swear I see this guy in their little fake artistic impression:

It's only been a month since President Trump told them to get their heads out of their asses and start working on space exploration instead of working on the global warming alarmism and we've already found other planets.
Imagine how much more advanced we'd be if it weren't the last year's NASA wasted.
40 light years away haha, crazy how far that is and how big the universe is. wonder if we're as smart as the people there I mean aliens, and we can make something to go there like they can to come here.
Trump inherited a mess but he is actually doing what he said he was going to do.
Thank You PDT wrote:

Still busy with that one too. Another hot January on record
https://climate.nasa.govwhats the point...40 light years away, ???? you have to travel at 186000 miles per second for 40 years to get there.....ponder that......never going to get there......ever.
The point of this announcement is so NASA can justify their importance to an administration and Congress that wants them to focus on crap that only supports their agenda.
Nice job, NASA!
LOL @ "nearby"
My gf is currently 3000m away and that is freaking far!
How many of them have global warming and/or climate change afflicting them?

Since your gf is obviously imaginary why don't you try imagining her being closer?

…already here now...
…space-time reality is actually just a dream of infinite consciousness…
…3 fingers on the right hand…3 fingers on the left hand…
…∞…∞…∞… ^∞…^∞…^∞…
...It is just a coincidental synchronicity...
The aliens on that planet are probs thinking the same thing
Considering Apollo mission rockets traveled 45,000 MPH in space and shuttles traveled 17,500 MPH just to stay in orbit I think your understanding of speed in space is a little off. Yes, it will still take a long time to get anywhere, but we're capable of moving faster in space than you realize.

Sure, it would only take ~7 traveler years or ~10 earth years at 1g accel/decel round trip but can you imagine the amount of fuel it would take to accomplish this. Not only do you have to carry the fuel to move yourself but you have to carry the fuel to move the fuel itself. It is an asymptote.
Meant to say 5 & 7 years *plus the distance in light years*.
But what if the spacecraft was solar powered or some shit?
Solar power is pretty sparce in "interstellar" space.
We would need to invent the other "and some such...".
The planets will all be hell even if they have water. They are all tidally locked with their sun (just like the moon is to earth). Those planets can't effectively redistribute heat well so the habitable zones become nearly nonexistent at best.
