Is there an easy way to find out about local/regional races that offer prizes and or prize money? Not elite runner, but a competitive master runner.

It's pretty much a crapshoot. I'd guess most charity races won't offer prize money, but you might get a gift certificate for top 3. I won a non-charity 5K outright last year with 500+ participants, but it was one of those races where the RD is only in it for the personal profit. All I got was a strange-looking award. With another local race where the RD was a local runner, I didn't even know it offered prize money until a check for $200 for third place showed up in the mail over 3 months later. Not trolling, this actually happened to me recently. Now I know why some of the faster guys in the area where slumming in some of the less competitive races. Easy money for them.
