About a week ago I decided to run "hills" on a treadmill since it was a snow storm outside. When I finished, my right calf felt "off" but there was no pain. 2 days later I went out to jog 8 miles and 3 miles in my calf started to get a dull ache, which I ran through, turning into a more painful ache, and by mile 5 I was done and stopped running. It has now been 4 days since that run and my calf is still relatively sore to the touch - I have been icing and foam rolling and using "The Stick" but it still feels tender.
The weird thing is that it does not hurt to walk, use the elliptical/bike or go up stairs. Unless I'm pressing on it (foam rolling or self massage) it doesn't hurt. I'm wondering, how long should I wait to try jogging again? Does it need to be completely pain free, even to the touch? I really don't think it's a major strain, but I don't want to injure myself even more.
PS. I work for a Physical Therapy department and I'm in the process of getting an appointment to do a gait analysis, just wondering if others have had experience with this type of situation.
Thanks!
