Wtf coach...

High School Running

So we got a new distance coach this track season and 1 of the first things he talked about was invitationals that we would be running. The first one is a season opener that we do every year and he said that he would collect seed times this week and sign us up. I then go on the meet website and the entries close today. Another meet that he said he'd sign us up for is the APU meet of champions. He kept talking about how it was such a fast meet and everyone would pr and it got us super pumped. So what did I do? I looked on the meet website and the entries are already closed.

Like wtf coach? Not cool at all.

Guess I'll be going to the local college track this saturday to run a 1600m time trial instead.

Usually a quick email will get you into a meet that isn't too full already. When I first started, I would accidentally miss deadlines by a night or two. Never was an issue as long as I sent an email and asked. Why don't you just worry about being the athlete and let the coach adjust to his new position?

Alright cool thanks. I'm not trying to do the coach's job or anything. Just upset when I found out that we wouldn't be able to do one of the meets that I've been looking forward to because it's filled up.

Well what school are you from? You have to realize if it's a new coach, you won't get in as a team to the APU meet because there's a several year waiting list for team entries, you can only get in if you're not part of that several year waiting list, if you're fast enough to make the invitational section...which those entries are up till march 16th, but you have to hit those specific marks to get in.

Don't be stagnant, do something about it. You should have responsibility to help your coach since you're cognizant of the situation.

I don't want to say my school for various reasons but I'm in the inland empire btw. I had no Idea about the long entry wait so that kinda sucks. And sadly I'm not able to drop a 4:18 1600m right now.
