Anything's possible, but a sub-9 2 mile is equivalent to a sub-4:10 mile (using Purdy Pts).

I ran low 8:1x in the 3k in college with only a 4:18 mile, but I'm more of a strength runner. I'd say you need to be around 4:10-15 with highschool-level strength to break 9. In college, a 4:20 guy could do it if he's primarily a 10ker
Depends on if you're strength or speed oriented. You can break 9 with a 4:18 mile if you have good strength. I've seen speed oriented guys that could break 4:10 but wouldn't come close to breaking 9 in the deuce.
