This is a serious question. I'm generally curious.
The top 1600m runner for track runs 5:41, she doesn't do xc though. The top xc runner runs about 6 flat that also does track. Her pr is like 20:25 for a 5k. Then there's this other girl that doesn't do track that qualified for state (the only girl on the team that qualified) and pr'd with a 20:09 that doesn't do track. (I'm ranting)
I just don't understand why it's so hard. Varsity xc ranges from 20:xx -24:xx. But even then there's this huge gap. The top two run in the 20-21. And the rest run 22-23 for a 5k. Am I missing something. Like nobody runs under 5:40 for the 1600 or 12:50 for the 3200. And 2:35 for the 800m
Why is it so hard for high school girls to break these times. But maybe it's mileage because I heard the top girl got to about 30mpw and apparently that was the highest.
