Coach Alex Gibby from UNC Charlotte seems to be training up a good team. Thoughts on his training philosophy?

When I was being recruited at Michigan by Gibby he mentioned that all of their mileage was done sub-6 minute pace, not sure how true that is.
Thought him being let go from Michigan was slightly surprising but honestly it seems like their new coach (Sullivan?) is getting equal or slightly better results.
His training at W&M was high mileage 100+ per week and all of it done at sub 6, usually closer to 5:45 per mile but usually ending up faster than that once hammering starts.
"Loading" type workouts ie intervals/hard mile followed by tempo intervals.

If true... That is ridiculous training. More like thrashing kids to death.
Yeah it's true. His training at Michigan was the same way. Day in, day out sub 6 pace

It's true.
Take a bunch of 9:20-30 HS 2 milers and have them do this type of training.
The strong survive and you have a good team but you also break a lot of people.
Also many of the guys ran more than 100 mpw, more in the 115 at this pace.
Coach Gibby is very knowledgeable about distance running. He gives each runner the right amount and intensity that they need. He develops runners and "doesn't trash them". The results speak for themselves.
Yeah, right !!!
At 115mpw, here is what happens:
- altered meal times, constraints on friendships you would form outside of the running circle. What, bathroom break? Do that on your own time!!!
- class schedule/major has to be approved by coach. End up with a fake degree that limits your options in life. Wait, did we forget about weight room, yoga, etc?
- unrivaled coach cult. Exhaustion level helps controls the mind. Watch and drool, Kim jong un !!!
Been UNC-Charlotte a while now and they are BAD.

If 100+ per week at sub-6:00 pace really works, or is even possible, then why don't the pros do it? The pros I know put in 100+ per week, but the majority of it is closer to 7:00 pace than 6:00, let alone all below 6:00. They even run at closer to 7:30-8:00 pace on doubles and recovery days.

It's not common, but some pros definitely train this way. I don't advocate his approach, but you can't deny that his teams have been successful. William and Mary fell off a cliff when he lift
Lol that 6 minute pace nonsense doesn't paint the full picture..his top guys ran some runs around 5:45-6 minute pace, but not all of it..it's kind of like when you ask a kid what mileage he runs and he tells you his highest week ever rather than his average.
Coach Gibby is a good Coach and Charlotte is a up and coming XC/Track Program. They finished 10th on the Men's side in the Region with a very young team. They also had a boy run 29:13 10k.
Didn't he used to be that portly wise acre on I-Carly?

I am willing to bet a hundred dollars that only one athlete at Charlotte is running 100 miles. That doesn't mean that when these guys are juniors/seniors they won't be running 100+ miles a week. When this time comes the athletes will be ready for it and the rest of the country will see the results.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
