Depends on the target event of course. But in general I agree.

Doubles are your friend.

I generally agree for 5k. Even for marathon, I generally agree, but just throw in one long run per week and run lots of doubles.

Probably helps in preventing overeating and drinking since you spend so much time getting ready to run, running, or cleaning up from running. That could help.

Not sure it's a huge difference maker for 5k, but I don't think it's a great approach for the marathon as some suggest it would be.

I agree that it helps with the drinking. you won't have to have a drink after a depressing long run.

Endurance athletes are not training enough if there testosterone levels aren't low. You don't need or want high levels of testosterone as an endurance athlete.

That is why it is important to weight train at least 2 times a weak. Lifting weights increase testosterone production, especially when working with large muscle groups.

So running more than 60 minutes, or taking on a lot of mileage during a long run shouldn't be an issue if the runner is also weight training. Elite runners do a lot of thorough weight training to maintain a physical balance.

I would say doing a long run longer than 2 hours, or longer than 25 percent of your weekly mileage would be more of a hormonal problem, but as long as the body is physically balanced that shouldn't be a problem either.

For 5k, one can reach 40-45 mpw with less than an hour per day.

I do 80 minutes everyday and a 45 minute double plus a 2.20 hour long run on Sundays. I'm 29 and I'm always horny, I have to knock one out before races. I've been doing this since October.

If you are decent, you can run 9 miles in an hour. Do doubles 6 days a week with a single run the 7th day and you would have 117 miles. Replace a couple 9 mile runs with 6 miles of speedwork and you have a 111 mile week.

This comment doesn't have the proper context to be evaluated for accuracy.

If you're going out for more than an hour at an easy pace; (i.e., zone 1-2 or MAF for those that use a HR monitor), it will not be problematic, generally.

However, doing a challenging workout for more than an hour too often CAN cause problems, at some point.

Makes sense for the 5K, especially if your total mileage is high enough. With doubles, you could conceivably run well over 100mpw without ever going over 60 minutes for a single run.

If a high school kid is doing 70 or 80mpw, is it really that important for any of the runs to be an hour plus? The longest race the kid is going to run will take less than 20 minutes.
