Nice race
Nice race
I was there and I was impressed . That was basically a solo performance from the gun. Have to think he could have gone 3:51 in Wanamaker Mile!
he won by five seconds. great to see this guy running well after a subpar first year as a pro. a couple years ago, he looked like he would be a great one and aggressive.
Back with Weese, it seems.
Ma man. He crushed it in this race, busted out a 28 in the middle to break it open by a huge margin. Principe choked
Yeah, crappy ole 4:02 for DJ. Why does he even get up in the morning?

could be a warning sign of a great runner who is not a good racer. his previous pr was won in the same fashion. basically a perfect time trial race set up. reminds me a bit of Brian Hyde of William and Mary.

Or it could be a sign that PRs are rarely set in championship-style races. Watch his 2015 NCAA indoor mile vs. Ches and tell me he's not a good racer. I've never seen such a ballsy move at that level before.
It's not about running fast in championship or strategic races it's about being competitive. The race against Chez was more reminiscent of a time trial race which is why I think he did so well in it. However he has had trouble when racing skills are needed
I'm not sure you can call a race in which the first 609 meters are run in 1:37 a time trial type race. Are you saying he doesn't have a huge kick? He ran his last 400 the other day in 57 (and the last 600 in 1:25).
I think you're putting down his racing skills because since he broke out onto the national stage in the winter of 2015, he had a lull in performance. He wasn't as fast outdoors in 2015 as he was indoors––possibly he was a little burnt out––and then he struggled his first year as a pro, when he tried different coaching. I expect that now that he's "back" you'll see him competing much better in whatever you define as a strategic race, hopefully making you eat your words!
I watched him race plenty of times at MSU. The guy can race, period.
