Ridiculous ESPN article on Shannon Rowbury

"It's challenging to come to terms with the fact people would rather cheat others than play fair," she says, "and I'll never understand that."

What's not to understand? Using Rowbury's logic, if she chose to dope, she would have an Olympic medal, possibly a gold.

She also believes that the ladies in front of her likely doped, but does not believe that the doping is so obvious and egregious that their titles will be stripped.

Does she really think that the current Olympic medalists have a hard time looking in the mirror?

The tragic thing is that what Rowbury defines as "cheating" now will be so acceptable in 20 years that she'll realize she was just being needlessly puritan in her training.

Here's an idea for Rowbury:

Stop competing with other people, and you shell find happiness.

Competition only leads to bitterness and disappointments.

I think if one is objectively looking at Rowbury's situation, the logical conclusion is that her career trajectory is suspicious.

Of course none of you losers can understand the heartbreak of losing to cheaters. You will never amount to anything in your running careers let alone make it on the world stage. But keep hating if it strokes your fragile egos

I don't see any hate in this thread, only stated facts.

Rowbury was one of the few athletes who had the courage to speak out against Semenya's participation in the women's 800m.

It's impossible to know for certain who is and who is not doping these days, but I admire her courage for speaking out against the SJW orthodoxy. Too bad Bishop was too much of a coward to state how she really felt to the media after being robbed.

Exhibit A. Loses a race, wants a medal anyway (the "not my president/medalist" tactic)

Exhibit B. Accuses those ahead of her of cheating or not playing by the rules (the "but I won the popular vote." Tactic)

Exhibit C. She thinks anyone cares about women's sports (the "women deserve to be treated as equals to men" tactic)

She ran a race. She lost to someone better.

Well for one thing you think I'm Shannon Rowbury. LOL

Im proud of Shannon. She speaks her mind. Even if she is not clean I applaud her. She is one of the few athletes who had enough cojones to say that Caster Semenya should not be competing against women. But mostly I applaud her for wanting to clean up the sport.

Always found it interesting that her husband hyphenated his last name with hers while working as a financial advisor trainee. Did he do this for that name recognition or because she asked him?

That's all quite likely correct. I'd be really surprised if any of the first four ladies in the historically dirty 1500 were clean, including the American record holder trained by Salazar.

Who had that record before her? Another lady trained by Salazar, rumored to have been cheating?

Speaking of her husband, remember last indoor season where he ran a 3:56 indoor mile a year after retiring? He said he spent only "2 weeks training with the girls" before running that 3:56. Interpretation: "Wow, honey, you should try this new stuff Alberto has!" A guy runs 3:56 indoors a year after retiring after only two weeks training and he does nothing further? Very suspicious.

Doug Williams credulously accepts Rowbury's complaints, and spins some facts to improve her case. (For example, he cites Aregawi in reference to the 2012 Olympics, but she tested positive much later than that and for a substance that was not illegal in 2012). While Rowbury is one of the greatest American middle distance runners in many respects, her racing tactics - lurking back with the pack in international competition - practically guarantee she will never get a gold in the Olympics or in World Championships. Her sixth place in the 2012 Olympics (now improved by the DQ of runners in front of her) was achieved in one of the most notably tactical (and slowest) Olympic finals ever. She had as good a chance as anyone there of winning that race outright, but she elected to stay with the pack and lost because she did not have the premier 400 meter speed to stay with the medalists.
