Incredible to watch. Truly horrible upper-arm form, but insanely fast.
WOW so amazing!
So much strength and drive. Truly a once in a generation talent.
What a run by Peres. To think she was out for nearly 3 months with pneumonia recently makes it even more insane.
Peres, Peres, Peres!
Unbelieveable.
We now have a replacement for Mary and/or Florence Kiplagat.
Good job!
She related to Paris Hilton?
NativeSon, I agree with you. Peres has been consistent and with this performance it now makes sense that she scratched from Frankfurt marathon last year which would have been her debut in the thon. Viola Jepchumba should also have been in this race.
With this results my curiosity now shifts to London marathon where Keitany will face Dibaba and Sumgong. Given Keitany is now an experienced marathoner than she was when she ran 65:50(WR) in 2011 after which she ran 2:19:19 that same year could she break 2:18 this year? Maybe run a new all women only world record? Sumgong who I think is now experienced marathoner as well ran about the same time Keitany ran in 2012 before she went on to run her current pb2:18:37. Dibaba was a few steps behind. Now Vivian Cheruiyot will be in London.I see a 4 way battle there and probable all 4 breaking 2:19. What's your take? Also Karoki's debut after to day's win and pb?

They probably pumped the same drugs in to her as those Kenyan/s, whose name/s escape me, who ran phenomenal times shortly after recovering from malaria. Must be good stuff, wish I could get some.
What does the MF stand for? Mega Fraud?
It was God and her manager.
"God and Her Manager Have a Plan
“I was not thinking that I can run world record but it’s God’s plan. I’m so happy. I’m not even believing myself that I ran a world record.â€
“My plans now, maybe I’m going to go home, find my manager, he will tell me what to follow. I can’t choose for myself, he’s the one choosing for me.â€
–Peres Jepchirchir, after setting a new half marathon world record at the 2017 RAK Half Marathon on Friday."
I'm a huge Dibaba fan, but I don't think she has the Speed Endurance to keep up with the Kenyans. She has flat out speed, where if she is close she can use her track kick to pull out that last half mile. With the kenyans, they crank up the pace after every 3 miles or so, and that just destroys her. It happened to her in the Great North Run Half Marathon, when Vivian cranked up the pace and that was all she wrote.
She's still a rookie at half marathon and marathon running, being that she is only 31 years old. So maybe 2 years from now she will be on a different level.....I know she is still learning how to run on a marathon level.

Your sagacity has no limits, rojo was wrong to call you an idiot on the RAK thread.

The men's race is way better and more exciting at this point.
YOu are an idiot.
Male Pacers i thought are not allowed in womens race, so this is not a world record, but maybe as we would call its best performance.
Still no world record, right?
I think the pacers needn't finish the race? There are many races where women ran with the men only to have their record qualified.
I am not sure. Nice run! A 2:15 women's marathon world record is looming.

2:17 maybe.
But 2:15 is another level altogether.
London will be great but I don't see anyone beating Mary. I think Dibaba has a way to go before she beats the other top athletes. I am very interested in Vivian Cheruiyot and I truly hope she has more running in those legs for the next 4 years. I'd love to see her in Tokyo 2020.
In my opinion, Jemima can't beat Mary in the marathon all things being equal. We'll see.
Agreed.
Dibaba is still running the ropes but I also think she is not in her best shape. During the Olympics 10k , she waas subdued and couldn't keep up with the two young ladies. She'll probably get it together may be next year but right now, I don't see her as a threat.
Isn't Vivian older than dibaba???
Vivian is a beast. She reminds me of Kipchoge for some reason because she is a very intelligent runner, and she has the speed to go with it. The way she ran that 5,000 meter against Ayana after Ayana went out blazing, she just maintained her composure and didn't panic.....She looked vicious as hell in the half marathon some months ago as well, and that was her first half marathon race.
But Mary K is the favorite for sure....I agree. She can just flat out run.
Here is the full video. I still can't believe these announcers. The British guy keeps saying that Keitany is Ethiopian and left off the Ethiopian team for Rio. Best to watch without sound since these guys don't know the sport.
