I'm not talking elbowing, shoving, cursing, cutting someone off or throwing a relay baton, I'm saying fist to jaw or nose, girls kicking or pulling hair, etc.
In my long history with this sport, I've never seen it, from sprints to marathon.

Been pushed to the ground and elbowed a lot during xc and 5k mainly in HS not so much in college
Yeah a couple of times at the armory. Mount vernon from westchester, Thomas jefferson from brooklyn, dw Clinton from the bronx. About 5 years ago a couple of these teams got banned for part of the indoor season.

Wow, that included a head butt at the start. Who were those dudes?
Another link there shows a French guy shoving a mascot to the ground in Hell-stinky.
My sophomore or junior year of HS, saw a guy get tripped during an xc race. He quickly got back up, caught the dude who tripped him, and threw him into a chain link fence.

I thought all distance runners are pacifists, which is why I'm asking.

A girl on my HS team got thrown into a chain link fence too. The fence ripped her singlet, which she had to wear for the rest of the season because there were no extra singlets available and no money in the school budget to buy a new one.
Someone teach this dude how to throw punches wtf
After an XC dual meet with Buena and Hueneme HS in Oxnard, CA back in the 80s. The Hueneme course was in a public park, and it was the flattest and fastest course in the Channel League. (It was probably short of a full 3 miles, too, but who knows?) After the race, the team was walking back to the bus, and we walked by two teenage girls engaged in a full-on brawl. No, they weren't on the team or involved in the race in any way, but we did see a real fistfight after a race. Pretty weird end to a dual meet.

The fight to decide what's better - tights or split shorts
Didn't see it, but in high school I saw that one of my biggest rivals hadn't made it to state in the 3200. Turns out he landed a punch in the first 100 meters of his district race and got DQed.
At a small D1 meet my freshman year, a guy from the host school and another small D1 school were fighting for position 2 or 3 laps into the 5k (both these guys were also freshmen and we raced against each other all the time in high school). What started as a little bit of pushing and shoving ended up as a full on fist fight in lane 4 or 5. I don't know how long they went at it, but it couldn't have been too long since one of them came back to beat me.
Same meet, 3 years later. On the final leg of the 4x4 there is contact between the host school and some non-NCAA school, which causes the host school to drop the baton. They confront each other after the race and next thing you know there's 20 guys (and girls) rushing over form each team and it's a full on brawl in the infield.
Saw two college distance kids in practice bunch it out a bit. They were doing repeats, and one guy slacked on all of them, they blasted past everybody on the last repeat and was a dick about it. Yeah, he probably deserved to get punched.
Saw one dude from Penn State start throwing total haymakers at HIS OWN TEAMMATES in the chute at the end of a cross country race! I was slackjawed at the sight.
Found out later that the guy throwing fists was a diabetic and his blood sugar had bottomed out. He was out of his head. Totally confused and combative. Looked like a tough ass kid though given how many of his teammates it took to get him under control!
Haile G punched in the head during a track race. Gave him a speed boost too!

tights, 2008 bronze 1500, Medhi Baala
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehdi_Baalashorts, 2008+12 silver +16 bronze 3kSC, Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahiedine_Mekhissi-BenabbadThe fight was in '11. They were in different training groups and reportedly there was a fierce rivalry.
When that happened I thought Baala was a douche and MM-B was cool. Turns out Baala is a douche and so is MM-B.
At '12 Euros after winning the 3kSC MM-B smacked the gift from the mascot's hand and pushed it away
Then in somewhat redeeming fashion at the 2012 OG's he celebrated his silver with Ezekiel Kemboi (gold) by swapping jerseys and doing a victory lap together.
At '14 Euros he took off his shirt while winning the 3kSC race on the homestretch in celebration (for which he was dq'd as lost his gold medal). I don't really care about this incident which some people thought was a travesty.
Then at the '16 OGs he protested (IMO obnoxiously) and got Kemboi DQ'd to take Kemboi's bronze medal. (The good news from which is that Kemboi came out of retirement after losing his medal and specifically said it was to avenge the dq).
Kevin Braunskill and James Trapp got into a fight at the ACC indoor championship after the 200 m back in 1990 or 1991. I was standing by the podium when the fight broke out.
Bruh it wasn't Mekhissi who protested, it was the French federation. Get your facts straight. Also why should Mekhissi be punished when Kemboi broke the rules? who the fudge runs on the inside of the rail? do you really feel bad for him? Those are the darn rules.
All these uptight sissies who don't understand that when you BREAK the RULES you will FACE the CONSEQUENCES
