Once had a throwing coach try to teach me how to run a sub 4 minute miler (4:45 guy here by the way). Said to just go out in a 59 and maintain it. Great advice coach. Also had this gem:
Coach: How long did it take you to run up that hill
Athlete: 42 seconds
Coach: Must be just over 400 meters
Great coach actually, just had one of those moments I guess.
"The workout starts when you want to quit." Oh, so everything you did up to that point isn't benefiting you at all? Sounds like a good way to race every workout.
"You shouldn't be able to feel your legs coming up that hill at the end." I don't know what's wrong with me, but I've always been able to feel my legs while racing. In fact, I feel the burning in them even more at the end of races.
"You should floss every day to avoid getting sick." You guys won't believe it but this quote is actually from Alan Webb. If he is reading this post, he will confirm.
