Guess everyone will have to take their 13.1 stickers off their cars cars now. So sad.
Bunch of amateurs. Made worse by their continued dismissal of any suggestions it was short, right up until the bitter end.
Currently getting slated on social media, as they deserve.
Only reason this came to light is the course measurer raising concerns over the fact that the course he watched them run on TV differed from what he had measured. The organizers were still using a course measurement certificate from a slightly different course and were using this to assure everyone - including Scottish Athletics - that the distance was correct.
Idiots.
I wonder how someone found out. GPS watches aren't that precise.
Ha. Of course (pun intended) this was thoroughly discused on LetsRun
Here's the organizer's post on Facebook last October:
"Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run
· October 2, 2016 ·
🔹UPDATE 🔹
After a few questions about the route today we can advise that it was measured by an IAAF certified course measurer and we were issued with a certificate to confirm accuracy. The elite split times were entirely in line with what would have been expected per mile. Unfortunately there was a mistake in a course map that was issued which led to some confusion. Congratulations to everyone who took part today!"
This is atrocious and I feel so sorry for Calling Hawkins and the many other runners who have been cheated of their PBs by Great Run's incompetence. An apology from the race director is a good start but I think they should go much further. A full refund for runners who want it would be a good gesture or perhaps donating the race profits to charity. Brendan Foster also should publicly apologise if he hasn't already
The miscalculation of the distance was down to human error and caused by two factors.
A small section of the prescribed route was not followed correctly in Bellahouston Park which accounted for approximately 50 metres of the shortfall. The remainder of the shortfall was as a result of the difference between measuring on closed roads compared to a measure on unclosed roads - which was the methodology used in August as a result of notification of essential utilities works affecting the course.
Yes still a great time and a solo run for him the last kilometers of the race
Yes, those were the idiots I was referring to.

Those Scots are so stingy and always short changing people. They must be from the north side of Edinburgh.
Sounds like something usatf did for Xc, at one of the jo meets times were way off, boys were doing 12 minute 4K that had barely if ever broken 14, they tried to say it was accurate at first an later said it was only 100m short lol, all the other courses were long as well
Deja vu - didn't this happen with the Manchester marathon last April, and they found loads of courses in the U.K. to be short? Geez louise, how is one to trust old race results from the U.K.?!

Amazes me all these weekend warriors shooting themselves in the foot pr wise when complaining on mass that the course is short on their garmin.
They really piss me off as they are constantly moaning even on courses that are accurately measured. People with a professional job are the worst, They have a little bit of intelligence but not enough to understand the shortcomings of a garmin for example on lap courses

Do you think that Paula's world record London marathon should have an asterisk********************************************************************************???
Maybe.

Told you so! That course was way too short and was simply not the same as in previous years. The money was not fairly distributed out and needs to be returned respectfully. The course was actually much more than 150 meters short and his time does not reflect an actuate performance. To deny this is to perpetuate a lie and continue the 'rip-off'. Get it right or don't run the damn thing at all! Specific individuals need to take on the responsibility for this fiasco and step up and admit their errors instead of getting defensive and childishly aggressive. Hawkins has worked far too hard to put up with this amateur muppetry!
Letsrun made a little mistake. They did not 'take away a British record'. It was a Scottish record. British is 59:32!
