Just you and the track and a stop watch. No lap splits on the stop watch. You break the world record at any distance of your choice but nobody ever knows about it.

i did this once i swear
Of course. If I could do it once, I'm probably in shape to do it again, or at least threaten the record in a sanctioned meet. Bolt, Van Niekerk, Michael Johnson, Rudisha and others have broken world records in practice, which is how they knew they could push for the record on the Olympic stage.

I ran my 5k PR by myself. Not nearly the same thing but it's still pretty lame that there's no evidence.
"witness's"? Wtf?
I do this all the time.

Yes I would, and the WR I would choose would be the 10k. I love running for it's own sake. Who cares if no one was around to see it? Some of my PRs are close to WR times from 100 years ago, does this make them more or less valuable? No. How my particular ability to run compares to others is ultimately meaningless. But the ability to run a given speed over a given distance is valuable and enjoyable in and of itself. If I could click off 25 laps at 63 seconds per lab, that would be awesome!
Yes. Even if I never 'break' the WR again it still means I am one of if not the best in the world and am getting paid well to run. Plenty of guys have made really good money and have zero WRs to their name.
* witnesses
I have a few that I tell people about all the time. All of which were my dad's former world records and we were both just "semi-pros".
Brenda Martinez does that routinely during training.
...with no witness's private parts in your mouth?

... nobody, that is, except the one person who is watching and wishing he had his private parts in your mouth.
If you had the physical ability to break a world record, why would you want to do it this way? What would be the point? Why not do it in an actual meet?

I remember reading years ago that Ryun first went sub 4 first time just training by himself. Not a WR, but pretty damn impressive.
I would break the 100m world record in some sketchers, standing start. White 24 min 5k hobby jogger. You can achieve anything you put your mind to!

Wang Junxia broke several world records in one week which none of us witnessed and was never able to threaten these records again before or since.
lol this girl in middle school claimed her dad ran a 3:30 mile in practice and it was just an unofficial world record... ... considering this was just some random dude, i was highly skeptical...
