Kid's a beast. Wonder if he'll give it another shoot in a few weeks.

With a 2:01.6 first half... it probably would have had to be a bit quicker for him to break 4. Hunter and Oakley did go sub 4 in this race however.
He's now 3rd US HS indoor "all time" behind Hunter and Webb.
Webb' best indoor in HS was 3:59.86
Principe is getting very close to that.
Too much too soon perhaps?
Wish him well and all. Often wonder though, if this all in push to try and beak 4 in HS is more detrimental than good.
Time will tell as it always does.
Good luck to him.
...also 3rd in the 1500m. His official splits was 3:44.52
He's popped off a few great miles. I didn't think he was much of a miler (thought more of the 5k/10k type) until this season. Curious to see what he will do for the rest of the year.

Yes, it would be great to see what he could do in the 2 mile. Any room for him at Milrose? There was room for Ches a few years back if I recall. Principe is now faster than Ches was at the mile in HS.

Agreed, although maybe not 10k I'd never thought of him his a miler, but he definitely has the speed for it.

Surprisingly, if you look at the top 6 "all time" indoor HS mile list. Everybody did pretty well
Hunter (we don't know yet, but he did win the race today)
Webb (US mile record holder)
Ches (best NCAA runner ever)
Hunt (was a prominent runner for years)
FIsher (is looking pretty well in College)
The first one that did not do well is #7, LV. So you have to go pretty far down the list to see a "problem"...
That was due mainly to a major injury un running related as well
What's up with this? Hunter did not do so well...

Your list is telling. Those on it have and are doing very well.
Taking a guess I would say Webb and Hunt probably trained mighty hard at that young age. Hunter by what I have read did volume with some intensity and Fisher didn't focus much on indoors. It's the third week in January and Principe has already raced hard in December right after cross country season and again raced hard now. In HS, indoor season rolls right into outdoor track season which makes for a long period if both are filled with high intensity training and racing.
What of the list of those that pushed, or were pushed, so hard to just miss and flame out due to injury or concentrated speed trading at an early age?
Tough to say whether holding back a young stud for the sake of long term development or go for it when one can.
I wish young runners well and look forward to watching them progress through collegiate running and beyond.

He won the race..
Closed in 57, other than that idk
Hunter won. Judging by his splits, it looks like he just wanted to win, not gun for any fast time. Next race, with better competition, I expect he'll run faster. Also, 3:58 with a 57 last 400 as a rustbuster is pretty damn good. I think it's about on par with Centro's 7:49 opener, and no one is berating him for a bad performance.
Hope he does well, have to worry about the HS coaches who ride their horses for all their worth.
Yo Samuel- nice handle. Where you from?
Thanks, and NC
