anyone else go into "hermit mode" when the shift careers?

    For example, I recently took a huge paycut to start a completely different career. I'm making about enough money to make ends meet but little more than that.

    I have no business on the dating market because I can't really afford to date at this time, nor do I think I am seen as valuable due to my low salary. Similar story for other socializing events.

    Anyone else feel this way? Almost like you dont deserve a good life until you're actually earning one from the work you put in. Or is this the wrong mindset?

    That's a shame man. I think you should date anyway, your value as a person is about way more than just your salary. You don't want to use your paycheck as a way to keep score of what you've earned in life, that's crazy talk. Not everything in life is a quid pro quo economic transaction.

    I actually think dating when you don't have much money is a great way to filter out shallow materialistic people. After all you don't want to be dating someone who values you for what you have, you want to date someone who likes you for who you are. That's an absolute bare minimum requirement in a good meaningful relationship.

    Sure stable finances are important when you get married and have kids, but that's a ways off and any decent person will see that if you're switching careers to do something you like better or find more meaningful then you're no slacker.
