I realize there is about the same chance of Roy Moore losing to Doug Jones this year as there was Hillary Clinton losing to Donald Trump last year.
It's a Flagpole calibrated zero chance.

I see what you are doing there

Admittedly I don't know much about Doug Jones, but if you aren't that familiar with Roy Moore you have to understand that he is wildly popular in Alabama. A substantial percentage of Alabamans agree with his views, and they voted him back onto the Supreme Court after he had previously been removed for his actions surrounded the Ten Commandments statue. Running as an independent might get Jones a few percent more, but he would somehow have to convince almost everyone who isn't a rabid Moore fan to vote for him. Unlikely, IMO.
I haven't looked at the district's history but it seems like it's his election to lose rather than some sort of legitimate contest.
Also, these nut jobs tend to have a very motivated, but small base. In this case, Bannon seems to be the one pulling the puppet strings, so a small base picks up easily influenced idiots with enough money.
So Trump actively supported Strange, and Moore won. This proves that I was right when I said that the political movement behind Trump was more important than Trump getting elected... which was voted the best post in the history of Letsrun by MoJo (the BroJo's Mother). Obviously MoJo is a very smart lady because she knows wisdom when she sees it.
This proves:
1. Trump is NOT a dictator. Trump supporters have a mind of their own. Trump's supporters will NOT do anything he says. All the liberals who said that were wrong, again. All the fear mongering is crap.
2. Trump's support is based on ideas, not Trump. It is a loosely defined ideological political movement that has no loyalty to any one man, and that's a good thing.
3. Even if liberals manage to take out Trump, the people who put him there will remain, and they will continue to fight against the swamp.
This was a huge victory against the swamp.
We know he's not a dictator thanks to the checks and balances in the Federal government and the 60 to 70 percent of us that resist every one of his stupid ideas. However, I have no doubt that it his ultimate desire to be dictator of this country. He's a megalomaniac.
As for Luther Strange losing, the only conclusion I can draw is that Alabama voters think Trump is now part of the swamp.

I think it's more likely that Alabama voters have had a love affair with Roy Moore for 20 years now, and unless he was running against Jesus himself, voters were not going to be dissuaded, no matter what the president said.
Not wrong. The anti-immigration movement is all over the world, not just in the US. Germany just put nazi sympathizers in their parliament. We put a violence preaching Nazi sympathizer in the WH. Same movement - anti-immigration.
I have no doubt that ignorant and scared repubs in non coastal states will elect more white supremacists and theocrats. Moore is just one of them.
On the national scene...can anyone lassoo the anti-immigration movement other than trump? is there anyone else out there on the national front? (term used on purpose) Or is trump such a good salesman that he got enough good people to vote for him, along with the deplorables?
For the sake of our republic, I hope it was just trump who had the skillz to convince normal people AND deplorables that he was The Answer.
But yeah - in godstates like Alabama, we'll get more and more anti-American theocrats like Moore.
I think it proves that Bannon and Breitbart heavily influence this block of voters more than anything else. He's like a cult leader.
Of course Trump is not a dictator.
How many of his plans have been implemented? None
If he was a dictator you'd see:
A great wall being built right now on the southern border
All Muslims banned from entering the country
Obamacare gone on day one
Hillary in jail

As usual you are wrong. His voters are the general manager of the team, and they brought in Trump as quarterback. He's got a great arm and he fills the stands, but sometimes he throws interceptions and doesn't show a good grasp of the overall game plan. So we GMs trust him to throw the ball, but we don't trust him to pick the rest of the players on the team. We the People are in charge, and that is exactly how it's supposed to be. This is a very, very good thing for our country.

it's a bit of a mystery why trump chose strange over Moore. Normally you would think moore and trump would be more sympatico.
Anyone understand how that came to happen?

You seem to be forgetting that a lot of people on the left were saying Trump would be a dictator and that I was the one here saying that he would not get much done because EVERYONE would be against him.

just curious - before the election did you think Trump and his admin would be THIS corrupt? With the travelgate, with the special prosecutor, with the Flynn, the manafort, the Kushner? etc?
or did you think the trump admin would be corrupt, just not THIS corrupt?

Trump is not an ideologue, so he really has NOTHING in common with Moore. He thought Strange was the better candidate, better speaker, tall and commanding, a leader, Trump's kind of guy, etc. Maybe Trump listened to some bad advice from the swamp? Also, Trump was probably trying to build a bridge with McConnell. Well, now he has to build a bridge with Moore.
There might be more to it, but that's probably pretty close.

Oh yeah and the millions of dollars of secret payments made directly to trump companies for access to the president. Did you see that one too?

conspiracy theories? huh?
Manafort and Flynn are going to be indicted, Kushner has been caught red handed lying on his security forms, as has trump junior, the congress is investigating trump's cabinet for travel spending abuses, and there is a special prosecuter investing everyone. And trump has received millions of dollars in hidden dollars via his businesses.
no consipiracy. this is fact.
Why bring up a lie that is so easily disproved?

Nobody ever said Trump was a dictator. So your claim that he is NOT a dictator is . . . what's that word again . . . oh yeah, dumberthanshit.
Trump WANTS to be a dictator. Everyone with a brain sees this. But nobody has ever thought that he IS a dictator.
Please do try to keep up.

Let me correct that for you.
YOU seem to be remembering things that never happened. There is also a name for this . . . liarliarpantsonfire.
Nobody EVER thought that Trump was or would be a dictator. That is not part of the picture. What IS part of the picture is that Trump wants to be a dictator and tries to act as if he is dictator.
Oh yeah, and he fails. He fails bigly.
