I don't know man, I just want to see these statues come down because they are honoring a bunch of war losers. Pathetic!

Those statues that were removed in Baltimore were put up in 1903. The governor of Maryland at the time was a democrat. Just sayin'

Please explain how stirring up all this hatred for something that happened 160 years ago is good for the country? Do you see wounds healing? Are the races coming together? Where's the good in it? Where does it stop?
Pretend you get to decide which monuments stay and which fall. Please tell us which ones come down, why they should come down, and what will be gained by tearing them down? Then explain why YOU should be the only one who decides such things, and why we shouldn't tear down EVERY monument that ANYONE finds offensive?
If anyone on the left had any intellectual integrity they would be compelled to answer those questions, and then find that they can't. But instead you will call people names and accuse them of being things they are not. Run away!
Please explain why ardently defending monuments that celebrate treason in the name of slavery is good for the country. Who benefits? How does that help races come together?
Pretend some of the monuments still around are even more overt than the ones today. Would you be defending a statue commemorating a Klansman?Would you be defending a statue of a burning American flag beneath a healthy Confederate one? Would it be fascistic to knock those down? I don't think it's unreasonable at all to take down monuments that celebrate treason and were constructed in the early 1900s for the explicit purpose of promoting white supremacy. The fact that Nazi White Supremacists see them as a vital rallying point is all anyone should need to know that they ought to go. To imply that this will lead to some slippery slope that ends in demolishing the Lincoln memorial or something is the height of absurdity.
You conjured up a defense for someone that has a history of violence against his own mother.
Not to speak for my fellow poster, but look at this incredible leap you make. I'm confident that this person intentionally plowed through that crowd, but everyone is due their day in court. Quote me anyone saying that we should just jail him forever or execute him without trial and I will repudiate that statement instantly.
Most of these monuments were put up more recently to celebrate figures that fought for a government in rebellion to the United States for which maintaining slavery and the subjugation of non-white people was central to its foundation, as written into the CSA constitution.
Not when white nationalists get pissed off that their heroes of white dominance will no longer be displayed on public property.
The people decide through their elected representatives. I don't think it was right for a mob of people to take down that statue. I am happy to see it gone but it shouldn't have been taken down that way. There's a civil way to state that we as a state aren't going to celebrate people who fought for the evil that is slavery.
I've answered them all to you, who has consistently repeated statements with the full knowledge that they are false to support your cause. You demonstrate a complete lack of intellectual integrity.

I never said he was.
I think he's a person completely lacking in principles who is frightened of alienating the alt-right supporters who backed him in the election.
You all getting this vibe? That the right wing is blaming the Democratic Party for Nazis and Klansters marching with guns, baseball bats, shields, Nazi flags, confederate flags and screaming about jews and communists?
it's all very amusing, but would appreciate their taking blame rather than looking the other way.

I don't think Trump is a racists, but I do believe he would cater to racists to secure support and votes. He likes to "win" at any costs. This is because he has low moral fiber and character.

In other words you have nothing relevant to say.
But truly a nice (and profoundly significant) touch with your 'just sayin'.

You certainly implied it. Trump condemned white supremacy. The lib echo chamber is already labeling everyone a nazi who agrees with Trump, then cheering on the violent leftists. Good going, idiots.

He's not a racist and yet would cater to racists? Really? You are insane. This is liberal logic at its finest.

This isn't a "vibe". I'm outright saying the the Antifa are the SOLE cause of the violence at this rally, period. They went to a legal rally with the explicit intent to violently deprive people of their right to free speech. This was a criminal act that should be condemned by every decent person in the country. If the left-wing would stop beating up on people, rioting, shooting cops, tearing down monuments, breaking windows, burning buildings, destroying cop cars, and looting stores, then the overall level of political violence in this country would drop to almost zero.
Why are there no Democrat politicians calling for this? Has every single Democrat been fooled by the Big Lie?

Eventually.
Did you figure out why Donald Trump spent 16 years condemning a man that he stated he didn't know anything about?

We see the usual liberal lying here. I did not defend him. I simply was making the case that what he did may not have been intentional terrorism. We still don't know exactly what happened, and you are willing to declare him guilty of terrorism before he gets his time in court. You are willing to join a lynch mob. I am not. That puts me above you... again.
You absolutely did defend James Alex Fields. You posted a doctored video and tried to say that it might not be his fault. That is a defense of his actions.
So whenever a Muslim mows down a crowd of people with a car, we should not call that person a terrorist? Should we wait until they are tried in court to call out terrorism?
And I do believe that the man deserves a fair trial. Lynching is the specialty of the people who had a permit to march in Charlottesville.

You don't seem to understand politics and sales.
Trump is a salesman AND a politician.
He is selling himself. He knows his most fervent customers are alt-righters and racists. He has been cultivating them for decades. Talk radio. Howard Stern. Wrestling. Trump knew in his salesman bones that he has to keep those guys happy to stay in business. doesn't matter what trump thinks himself. he has to sell sell sell.
really man - this is basic stuff. Any salesman recognizes Trump as one of their own.

What if the elected Republicans started tearing down MLK monuments all over the country because they claimed he was a communist? You would be OK with that right? Well you just said you would be and since you claim to have intellectual integrity, then I will believe you.
But I'm not OK with your Taliban-style of cultural cleansing, where every set of elected officials attempts to rewrite history so that their predecessors vanish from the collective memory. What an outrageous way to govern a society! It shows a weakness of mind and an intolerance for differing ideas that set a dangerous precedent for other forms of censorship and intolerance in society.
More crazy emotional left wingers taking illogical actions against Trump!
Oh wait. It is the SP 500 telling Trump to go to hades.
Respectable people don't want to be associated with this president any more. Said with emphasis, respectable corporate chiefs don't want to be associated with a REPUBLICAN president.
Read that a couple times. Corporate America is moving against the Republican Party. The RNC is going to be quaking.
The cessation of the celebration of people who fought in rebellion against the United States for the purpose of maintaining the institution of slavery. How is a Stonewall Jackson statue on public property not an endorsement of the man?
That would be wrong because that claim is unfounded and second, even if we had MLK, Jr.'s personal red card, it's not illegal to be a communist. Armed rebellion against the union is.
If we found out that MLK, Jr. was a serial rapist then yes, take down the monuments.
Your mind can't keep concepts straight. No one is changing the past. We are changing what is celebrated.
Like I said, through elected representatives. If the people of South Carolina want to have their Robert E. Lee statue, they will elect representatives to maintain one. If they don't, they can remove it.

You assume I'm a lily white Anglo Saxon. Nope, far from it. As stated long ago, I'm a latino/minority. (Go to the presidential candidate thread for the mentions). I don't advocate racism or violence from any group left or right. However, I see libs here ignore the violence that BLM or Antifa has done. When BLM kills cops, I see all the cop haters on LRC come out of the woodwork. When Antifa flips over cars, sets fires fires and breaks windows at Trump rallies, the libs pivot to another subject. You libs never own up to when your side does wrong. You end up blaming the blame on the conservative right, it never fails and your fake news media piles on.
The fact remains, liberal stupid exists.

I will gladly make the call that Antifa needs to go away.
But the KKK and the neo-Nazis were committing violent acts of terrorism long before Antifa ever existed. The KKK and neo-Nazis are organizations that support and commit acts of violence that far surpass anything Antifa has ever done.
That said, I will indeed defend their right to march and protest peacefully. Every Democrat I've heard from believes this too.
