You may hate us, but liberals love you. We really do.
We want you to have health care and good jobs.
We want your kids to have a top-quality education so they can have productive lives.
We value hard work and we want your wages to be high.
We don't want you to be exploited by greedy employers.
We want your air and water to be clean.
I could go on.
Without liberals, those red sections of the country wouldn't even have electricity. We really do want your lives to be better.
While my position on these things mostly aligns with yours, you bring up a good debate about the role of the federal government in what could be considered "local" issues. Take Common Core for example. It might help a child in rural Mississippi learn skills that enable them to live a productive life and not be at a disadvantage when competing for a job with people from other states. But what if they never plan to leave their hometown? What about a farm kid who wants to take over the farm. Does he really need to know algebra?
I think it comes down to one's opinion on this question: "Would I prefer that the federal government never provide me with benefits, but also never take any of my money?" I realize that the issue is a little more complex, but that is the basic disagreement.
